CHAIR’S MESSAGE
The 8th Silicon Heterojunction International Workshop (SHJ Workshop) returns in 2025, following its previous edition in Sicily, Italy, and this year makes its mark in Daejeon, Korea. The location holds special significance as the home of CAST (Center for Advanced Solar PV Technology at the Korea Institute of Energy Research) — Korea’s newly launched open innovation hub dedicated to next-generation photovoltaics research, development, and collaboration. Set within this forward-looking environment, the SHJ Workshop continues to serve as a vital international platform for advancing dialogue between the scientific and industrial communities engaged in heterojunction and tandem PV technologies. The 2025 edition will be held in conjunction with two complementary events: the Tandem Special Forum, which received wide acclaim in Daejeon last year, and the inaugural PST (Perovskite-Silicon Tandem) Workshop, broadening the scope of discussion to encompass diverse tandem PV pathways and research communities. While previous workshops primarily focused on SHJ-based concepts, the 8th edition will expand its scope to include developments in TOPCon-based tandem architectures, reflecting the evolving landscape of high-efficiency PV technologies. The workshop will offer a rich and engaging program of expert-led sessions designed to share cutting-edge insights, highlight recent advances, and foster cross-sector dialogue across the SHJ and tandem PV ecosystem. We look forward to welcoming you to this meaningful international gathering in Daejeon, and to continuing our shared pursuit of high-efficiency, low-carbon photovoltaic innovation. —— Jihye Gwak, Chief of the Photovoltaics Research Department, KIER
